The project was born after seeing a famous photo of Helmut Newton, portraying a woman in a very sensual pose, sitting in a restaurant with naked breasts and out of her shirt.
We are used to seeing breasts as an erotic part of women but in reality it can be connected to problems and not always felt as a trophy.
The project therefore revolves around uncoated but “ordinary” women’s stories.
From the abused minor who attributes to her “grown-up” breast what happened, to the woman with prosperous breasts who can’t have children and wonders if she will ever breastfeed.The breast of a woman who is dumped by her husband during breastfeeding and transmits all the sadness and despair to her daughter who becomes intolerant to milk. The nursemaid who breast-feeds other people’s children to bring money home and not by vocation.The breast of those who feel more male than female and who do not accept their own physicality. The relationship with the breast of a girl who doesn’t like herself. The relationship with the body of someone who has undergone an operation on which their life depended and who wakes up with one less breast.
The title is inspired by the warriors of Greek mythology.
According to the ancient Greek, Amazon comes from a-mazos, without breasts, connected to popular tales according to which Amazons cut or burned the right breast to use the bow more freely without physical limits.
The women in this book are Amazons because they have had and/or still have problems with their breasts, they are strong, brave enough to look out the window, where the light comes from. They want to move on.
The Amazons are also famous for the important sense of “sisterhood”.
Amazons is a collection of the stories of seven different women very close to me.
Il progetto è nato dopo aver visto una famosa foto di Helmut Newton, che ritraeva una donna in una posa molto sensuale, seduta in un ristorante con il seno nudo e fuori dalla camicia.
Siamo abituati a vedere il seno come una parte erotica delle donne ma in realtà può essere connesso a problematiche e non sempre vissuto come un trofeo.
Il progetto quindi ruota intorno a storie poco patinate ma di donne “comuni”.
Dalla minorenne abusata che attribuisce al suo seno “da grande” quanto accaduto, alla donna con il seno prosperoso che non riesce ad avere figli e si chiede se allatterà mai. Il seno di chi viene lasciata dal marito durante l’allattamento e trasmette tutta la tristezza e la disperazione alla figlia che diventa intollerante al latte. La balia che allattava i figli degli altri per portare i soldi a casa e non per vocazione. Il seno di chi si sente più maschio che femmina e che non accetta la propria fisicità. Il rapporto con il seno di una ragazza che non si piace. Il rapporto con il corpo di chi ha subito un’operazione da cui dipendeva la propria vita che si risveglia con un seno in meno.
Il titolo si ispira alle guerriere della mitologia Greca.
Secondo il Greco antico, Amazzone deriva da a-mazos, senza seno, connesso ai racconti popolari secondo i quali le amazzoni tagliavano o bruciavano la mammella destra per usare più liberamente l’arco senza limiti fisici.
Le donne di questo libro sono amazzoni perché hanno avuto e/o ancora hanno problemi con il loro seno, sono forti, coraggiose abbastanza da guardare fuori dalla finestra, da dove arriva la luce. Vogliono andare avanti.
Le Amazzoni inoltre sono famose per l’importante senso di “sorellanza”.
